Downtown L.A.

Κίνηση, κίνηση, κίνηση και πάλι κίνηση. Με το που μπήκαμε στο LA κατευθείαν καταλάβαμε ότι βρισκόμαστε σε μία πυκνοκατοικημένη μεγαλούπολη όπου ακόμα και οι τεράστιοι αυτοκινητόδρομοι είναι πάντα μποτιλιαρισμένοι, γιατί στο LA κάθε ώρα είναι ώρα αιχμής. Έτσι λοιπόν μας υποδέχθηκε η πόλη, με κίνηση και μποτιλιάρισμα και μεγάλη καθυστέρηση.

Και εντάξει, όταν είσαι τουρίστας δε σε πειράζει ιδιαίτερα γιατί σε αποζημιώνουν οι φοίνικες και ο καλός καιρός αλλά αν μένεις εκεί, τα πράγματα είναι ζόρικα.

Η καρδιά του Los Angeles, το Downtown είναι αρκετά υποβαθμισμένο και παραμελημένο από τον Δήμο. Ξεκινήσαμε τη βόλτα μας από το Union Square όπου βρίσκεται ο σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός της πόλης, το Union Station, ιστορικό κτίριο χτισμένο από τις αρχές του 1900 το οποίο εσωτερικά είναι μαρμάρινο με μεγάλες δερμάτινες πολυθρόνες ιδανικές για την αναμονή των ταξιδιωτών και φυσικά πεντακάθαρο. Απέναντι ακριβώς ακούγαμε μουσική οπότε πήγαμε να δούμε τι ακριβώς γινόταν. Μεξικάνοι χόρευαν tango δεξιά, ινδιάνοι χόρευαν τα δικά τους απέναντι. Βρισκόμασταν στην Olvera street. Μία πεζοδρομημένη οδός με μεξικάνικο παζάρι, μία μικρογραφία του San Diego Οld Town. Συνεχίσαμε προς το Cathedral of Our lady of Angels, είδαμε το Δημαρχείο, το υπέροχο αρχιτεκτονικά Walt Disney Concert Hall και λίγο πιο κάτω μπήκαμε στο MOCA. Τα εκθέματα ενδιαφέροντα αλλά το μουσείο το μικρότερο που έχω πάει ποτέ και είχε και 12$ είσοδο το άτομο. Προχωρώντας συναντήσαμε την Grand Central Market, μία κλειστή πολύ πιο μικρή και πολύ πιο καθαρή Βαρβάκειο όπου φάγαμε πεντανόστιμο κινέζικο με 3$ το άτομο. Πιο κάτω περάσαμε από τη Jewelery District, τη Flower District και καταλήξαμε στο LA Live όπου είχε ηβεντ η Coca Cola.

Μας βρήκε η νύχτα με cocktail στο χέρι στο rooftop του Ace Hotel (the place to be)δίπλα στη θερμαινόμενη πισίνα, με καταπληκτική θέα όλου του LA, με φοβερές μουσικές και πανέμορφο κόσμο γύρω μας.

Traffic, traffic there was everywhere traffic! As soon as we entered LA County, we directly understood that we were in a densely populated city where even the huge highways are always congested. Because in LA, every hour is rush hour.

So LA welcomed us with lots of traffic and jams and long delays.

Okay, when you are a tourist you do not mind so much because every single thing is exotic for you, but if you live there, things are tough.

The heart of Los Angeles, Downtown, is quite degraded and neglected by the municipality. We started our walk from Union Square where we found LA's railroad station, Union Station. The historic building was built at the early 1900s and it is really beautiful both inside and outside. On the opposite street we heard music so we went there to see what was going on. Mexicans were dancing tango, Indians were giving their show on the other side. The place was full of people and joyful music. We were at Olvera street. Then, we went to the Cathedral of Our lady of Angels, saw the City Hall, the magnificent architecture of Walt Disney Concert Hall and walked a little further down until the MOCA. Its exhibits were interesting but it was the smallest museum I have ever been, plus had a $12 entry per person. Moving along the street, we found the Grand Central Market where we ate delicious Chinese food for only $3 per person. A bit further down, we saw the Jewelery District, the Flower District and ended up at LA Live where there was (again) happening something, an event by Coca Cola.

At night, we enjoyed a delicious cocktail at Ace Hotel rooftop bar(the place to be) having amazing view of the city, great music and beautiful people.
